Terms of Use.
These terms apply when you use Cheap Audiobooks: the iPhone app, the web app, this website and the Save to Cheap Audiobooks browser extension. Cheap Audiobooks is published by Alex Ramalho (“we”, “us”). By using the service, you agree to these terms.
The service
Cheap Audiobooks turns books, documents and webpages you provide into a private library you can read and listen to. It extracts text, generates narration with Basic or Premium voices, can write optional AI summaries (Key ideas), and lets you download audio for offline listening. Features may change as the service improves.
Your account
You need an account to use the app. Give accurate information, keep your sign-in method secure, and tell us if you think someone else has accessed your account. You are responsible for activity in your account. You must be at least 13 years old, and old enough to accept these terms where you live.
Your content
- You keep ownership of what you upload or save. We don’t claim any rights in it.
- Only upload files and save pages you have the right to use this way, for example books you own or content licensed for your personal use.
- Your library is for your own private, personal use. Don’t share or distribute narration made from content you don’t have rights to share.
- You give us permission to store, process and convert your content, including through the service providers in our privacy policy, only to provide the service to you.
If you believe content in the service infringes your rights, email us and we’ll look into it.
Acceptable use
Don’t use Cheap Audiobooks to break the law or infringe anyone’s rights; to upload malware or harmful content; to probe, overload or interfere with the service or its providers; to get around usage limits or payment; to access other people’s accounts or data; or to resell the service without our permission.
AI-generated narration and summaries
Narration, text extraction, phrase highlighting and Key ideas summaries are produced automatically, partly by AI. They may contain mistakes: mispronunciations, skipped or misread text, or summaries that leave out or misstate what the source says. Check the original when accuracy matters. Summaries are not professional advice.
Listening credit
- Narration and summaries are paid for from prepaid listening credit. There is no subscription and no automatic renewal.
- The estimated price is shown before new narration or a summary is generated. Replaying audio that has already been made is free.
- Credit doesn’t expire. It has no cash value, can’t be withdrawn, and can’t be transferred to another account.
- Purchases are generally non-refundable, except where required by law or through Apple’s refund process for App Store purchases.
- We may change prices for future generation. Changes don’t affect credit you’ve already bought, which keeps its value.
App Store purchases
On iPhone, credit is bought through Apple In-App Purchase. Apple processes the payment and handles refunds at reportaproblem.apple.com. If you got the app from the App Store, your use of it is also governed by Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement. These terms are between you and us, not Apple; Apple is not responsible for the app or its content. On the web, credit is bought through Stripe.
Ending your use
You can stop using the service at any time and delete your account in the app under Account → Delete account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other users at risk. If we close your account without cause, or stop offering the service, we’ll give reasonable notice where we can.
Disclaimers and liability
We work to keep Cheap Audiobooks reliable, but the service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of uninterrupted or error-free operation. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost data or lost profits, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before it arose. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can’t be waived.
Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be posted here with a new effective date. If you keep using the service after that date, the updated terms apply.
